8th August Patna: YouTuber Arrested for Alleged Disruption of Harmony Between Communities
A recent incident involving the disturbance of harmony between two communities has led to the arrest of a reporter affiliated with a YouTube news channel, as confirmed by Darbhanga police on Monday.
The arrest ensued following an escalation of law and order concerns in the area, prompted by the airing of 'ground reports' on two YouTube channels that were deemed to propagate misleading and objectionable content, according to law enforcement.
The events unfolded in the Shivdhara Bazaar locality of Darbhanga on July 23rd.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police announced that Ajay Kumar, a 'reporter' on YouTube hailing from Ijra village under Rahika police station in Madhubani, was apprehended on charges of disseminating deceptive and offensive content through his channel.
Upon investigation, the police scrutinized the content featured on the aforementioned news channels and identified videos that exhibited hostility and made deliberate attempts to undermine harmony between the two communities.
Subsequently, a formal complaint was lodged against both channels at the cyber police station, invoking relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act to address the issue at hand.
