The Trinamool Congress has announced the appointment of Mahua Moitra as the district president of Krishnanagar, the same constituency she represents in the Lok Sabha. This development coincides with the Lok Sabha ethics panel's recent adoption of a report recommending Moitra's expulsion in connection to the 'cash for query' case.
Expressing her gratitude on social media platform X, Moitra thanked Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress for entrusting her with the role, stating, “Will always work with the party for the people of Krishnanagar.”
The 500-page report from the Lok Sabha ethics panel stems from an investigation into allegations that Moitra shared her Parliament portal login credentials with a businessman, deemed unethical conduct by the panel. The report is scheduled to be presented in the Lok Sabha on December 4, the first day of the Winter Session. Officials indicate that the government plans to move a motion on the same day to expel Moitra.
Denying the allegations, Moitra, in an interview with PTI, claimed a conspiracy involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group behind the ethics panel report. She asserted, "In the 500-page report, there was no mention of cash because there isn't any. Basically, everything is about not questioning. The Modi-Adani nexus is running the government, and because of this, the issue is how not to question... They are in panic."
Moitra went on to allege that the motive is to silence those questioning the government's actions, stating, "They are desperate to keep this hidden as long as possible... So this is part of the plan." The interview also touched upon Moitra's accusations related to the Adani Group's involvement in a coal scam.
