Uncover insights from Counterpoint Research and learn about the upcoming premium launch, Realme GT 5 Pro, featuring Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Sony's Lytia camera sensor.
Realme, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, proudly announced the shipment of over 200 million phones since its establishment just over five years ago, marking it as the fifth fastest smartphone maker to achieve this significant milestone. Most notably, the majority of these shipments were directed outside of China. Realme, a part of the Chinese consumer hardware giant BBK Electronics, which also owns the Oppo and Vivo brands, achieved this feat in the second quarter.
Data from Counterpoint Research, a renowned market analytics firm, revealed that only four companies, namely Vivo, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple, achieved this milestone in a shorter time frame. In total, a mere 14 companies globally have surpassed the 200 million phones shipped mark.
Realme's Chief Marketing Officer, Xu Qi, reflected on the brand's journey, stating, "We came into existence when there were over 700 smartphone brands in the world. We are extremely proud that we have been able to be in the world's top 10 brands for the past five years." Counterpoint Research noted that the number of phone brands has significantly reduced from over 700 in 2017 to approximately 250 in September.
Looking ahead, Realme is set to launch its premium offering, the Realme GT 5 Pro, poised to compete with other high-end smartphones. This upcoming model will feature Qualcomm's latest cutting-edge chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and Sony's innovative Lytia camera sensor. Notably, Realme is gearing up to enter the premium phone segment, challenging competitors with advanced technology and features. This move aligns with the broader industry trend, as evidenced by Xiaomi's recent release of the Xiaomi 14 Pro, also equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
