Possible Prosecution of 7 Railway Officials in Electrocution Case: Delhi Police

Sakshi Ahuja, who tragically lost her life to electrocution on June 25 while walking through a flooded street near New Delhi Railway Station, is now at the center of an impending legal action. Delhi Police is on the verge of approaching Indian Railways to seek their authorization for prosecuting seven officials implicated in the electrocution case that unfolded earlier this year.

The police had previously questioned these seven individuals in connection with the incident but had subsequently released them. Within the next 15 days, the police are expected to file the chargesheet, considering that the incident occurred on June 25, and legal proceedings must commence before September 25.

A Delhi police official stated, "The investigation is complete from our end, and we have named the responsible officials. We have now written to the Indian Railways with the detailed report seeking prosecution sanction. We will file the chargesheet as soon as we receive the sanction from the railways."

The unfortunate event claimed the life of 35-year-old Sakshi Ahuja, who inadvertently made contact with a loose wire from a nearby electric pole while navigating the flooded street. Following the incident, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to negligent conduct involving machinery and death due to negligence.

Recently, the railway police submitted a comprehensive report to the Delhi Police, containing technical findings pointing to negligence by seven officials occupying various positions. They have been held accountable for their alleged carelessness in maintaining the electrical equipment.

An earlier report suggested that the electricity leakage resulted from insulation failure, with the initial findings attributing the incident to "negligence in the upkeep and maintenance of the wiring cable at the incident spot."
