Noida to Establish First Drug Rehabilitation Center for Students: Chief Minister Adityanath Takes Decisive Action
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directs the establishment of a groundbreaking drug rehabilitation center in Noida, targeting addiction among students and cracking down on the illicit drug trade in educational institutions.
Noida is poised to witness the establishment of its inaugural drug rehabilitation center dedicated to aiding addicted students, with a focused initiative against the illicit drug trade within universities and private institutions in the Gautam Budh Nagar district. Officials familiar with the matter revealed this significant development on Sunday, highlighting that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during his visit on November 8, issued directives to open a rehabilitation center in response to the escalating instances of drug-related activities in educational institutions.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for a coordinated effort to dismantle the operations of those involved in this illicit trade. Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate Maneesh Kumar Verma announced a scheduled meeting on Monday to deliberate on the establishment of the drug rehabilitation center and formulate a comprehensive action plan. Representatives from Noida, Greater Noida authorities, the district magistrate, and Gautam Budh Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, among other officials, are expected to attend the meeting to finalize the strategy.
In accordance with the Chief Minister's instructions, the Noida authority is set to allocate space for the rehabilitation center. The officials have outlined plans to collaborate with professors and internal committees within universities to combat the menace both outside and inside the campus. This multi-faceted approach aims to address the recent surge in drug-related incidents within educational institutions.
The Chief Minister directed the administrations of Noida, Greater Noida, Yeida, and Gautam Budh Nagar to establish the drug rehabilitation center in response to the increasing police crackdown on gangs supplying contraband substances, including MDMA, cocaine, and hash, to universities and professional institutions. The directive underscores the importance of a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies and educational institutions. Additionally, universities and private institutions have been instructed to form internal committees to proactively address and contain the use of drugs on their campuses. This holistic approach reflects a commitment to curbing the influence of drug rackets in educational settings.
