Microsoft Signals End for WordPad in Future Windows Versions - Windows 11 Update Reveals
Microsoft to Retire WordPad in Future Windows Versions - Latest Windows 11 Update Unveils Changes

Microsoft has hinted at the removal of its long-standing WordPad application from upcoming versions of the operating system. WordPad, a Microsoft Word alternative that has been a Windows fixture since its debut in August 1995, is slated to be excluded from future installations and will not be available for reinstalling.

This revelation comes from the Windows Insider Blog, specifically in the latest Windows 11 Canary Channel build. According to the blog post, WordPad, along with the People app, will no longer be included in clean OS installs, and a subsequent update will remove WordPad entirely. The application is labeled as "deprecated," indicating it is no longer actively developed and may be eliminated in future releases.

Microsoft recommends users turn to Microsoft Word for rich text documents like .doc and .rtf, and Windows Notepad for plain text documents like .txt. The deprecation status of WordPad has been in effect since September 1 of the previous year, as indicated in the company's list of deprecated features.

It's important to note that as of now, WordPad is still present in the stable version of Windows 11. The anticipated changes will undergo testing in beta and developer channels before being implemented, suggesting a gradual rollout.
