Mahua Moitra Responds to Lok Sabha Panel Summons: Unable to Attend in Delhi on October 31
New Delhi, October 28, 2023: Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra has firmly responded to the summons issued by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee regarding the cash-for-questions allegations. She has conveyed her inability to attend the panel on the designated date of October 31, citing a breach of the principles of natural justice. In her response, Mahua Moitra has expressed her readiness to appear before the committee in person at any date and time of their choice after November 5.
The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee had scheduled her appearance for October 31, but Mahua Moitra's reply emphasizes that the proceedings allegedly violated the order of natural justice. The committee opted to hear the complainants, Nishikant Dubey and Jai Anant Dehadrai, prior to Mahua Moitra's response, a move she considers prejudicial.
Furthermore, Mahua Moitra has cited the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, underlining their significance in West Bengal. In her written statement, she mentioned, "I represent the state of West Bengal where Durga Puja is the biggest festival. I am already committed to attending numerous pre-scheduled Vijaya Dashami Sammelans/meetings (both government and political) in my constituency from 30th October to 4th November 2023 and cannot be in Delhi on 31st October 2023."
This development underscores the complexity and sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, as Mahua Moitra seeks to ensure that the principles of fairness and due process are upheld throughout the proceedings. Her response paves the way for a potential rescheduling of the committee's hearing to a later date, assuring her availability to address the allegations against her while adhering to her prior commitments in West Bengal.
Chairman, Ethics Comm announced my 31/10 summons on live TV way before official letter emailed to me at 19:20 hrs. All complaints & suo moto affidavits also released to media.
