Indian Envoy to US Emphasizes Ramayan's Global Relevance at Washington Event

In a thought-provoking address at the US Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, titled 'Ramayana across Asia and Beyond,' the Indian envoy to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, highlighted the transcendent nature of Ramayan, referring to it as a bridge across geographies. The envoy shared insights into the complexities of human relationships, governance, spirituality, and the eternal struggle between good and evil embedded in the epic.

Ambassador Sandhu expressed, "Ramayan and its shared heritage across the Indo-Pacific. The lessons and tales from Ramayan are passed down from generations, and it is hard to say exactly when one learns them. It's as if one was born with them. The epic gives insights into the complexities of human relationships, governance and spirituality, dharma or duty, justice, sacrifice, loyalty, and the eternal struggle between good and evil."

He further emphasized that the Ramayan serves as a cultural unifier, reaching far beyond the borders of India. Stories from the epic are familiar in many countries across the Indo-Pacific, influencing societies from Cambodia to Indonesia and Thailand to Laos. The epic has been reimagined and incorporated into various artistic, literary, and religious traditions, adapting to unique cultural nuances.

Ambassador Sandhu underscored the profound impact of Ramayan across boundaries, stating, "I have been personally witness to this influence of Ramayan across boundaries." He stressed that the epic speaks to a fundamental shared humanity, emphasizing the common need for ethical principles among diverse backgrounds.

Moreover, the envoy delved into the relevance of Ramayan for diplomats, policymakers, and individuals alike. He pointed out that the epic imparts lessons on the importance of dialogue, a measured and strategic approach, and collaboration with dependable and like-minded partners. The event holds particular significance as it coincides with the countdown to the inauguration of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to preside over the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla during the ceremony. The seven-day celebration, starting January 16, will witness Vedic rituals and the official enshrining of Ram Lalla at the sanctum-sanctorum of the Ram Temple.
