Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accused Governor CP Radhakrishnan of involvement in his recent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Soren, who was arrested in connection with a money-laundering probe, made the accusations in the Jharkhand Assembly ahead of a floor test. He claimed that on the night of January 31, he became the first Chief Minister in the country to be arrested and suggested the Raj Bhavan's involvement.
Soren resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest, and Champai Soren, a minister in his government, was subsequently elected as the new Chief Minister. Hemant Soren, addressing the assembly, stated that his party has not accepted defeat and accused the BJP of not wanting a tribal Chief Minister to complete a five-year term.
He declared that if the ED accusations were proven, he would quit politics and challenge them to show documents of the alleged land scam. Chief Minister Champai Soren accused the BJP of attempting to destabilize the democratically elected Jharkhand government and emphasized Hemant Soren's contributions to the state. The JMM had earlier alleged that the governor deliberately delayed Champai Soren's swearing-in to provide the BJP time for horse-trading.
