Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, found himself facing a formidable new rival as Elon Musk's xAI unveiled its latest creation, the Grok artificial intelligence chatbot. The tech magnate, known as the world's wealthiest individual, enthusiastically praised the capabilities of Grok in a series of posts on X, emphasizing its superiority, especially when compared to ChatGPT. Altman, seizing the opportunity, responded to Musk's claims.
In a recent post on X last Friday, Altman shared a screenshot where he requested ChatGPT to transform into "a chatbot that answers questions with cringey boomer humor in a sort of awkward shock-to-get-laughs sort of way."
The response from ChatGPT was, "Great, the chatbot is set up! Its name is Grok. How do you like the name, or would you prefer something else?"
Altman added a witty remark, stating, "GPTs can save a lot of effort," seemingly taking a playful dig at Musk.
Elon Musk, in his post on X, shed light on what sets xAI's Grok apart from other AI generative tools. He emphasized Grok's real-time access to information through the ???? platform, highlighting it as a significant advantage over other language models.
Musk shared insights into the characteristics of his AI-driven chatbot, stating, "Grok has real-time access to info via the ???? platform, which is a massive advantage over other models. It’s also based & loves sarcasm. I have no idea who could have guided it this way," as noted in an X post.
To showcase Grok's capabilities, Musk posted an image where the AI tool was asked to provide a step-by-step guide on making cocaine. Grok, however, demonstrated its ability to handle sensitive questions by injecting humor and sarcasm into its response, making it clear that it does not endorse illegal activities.
In contrast, ChatGPT typically requires prompts to deliver witty answers and initially lacked real-time internet access. Subsequent versions, however, have been equipped with the capability to search the internet for information. The competition between these AI chatbots continues to unfold in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
