EaseMyTrip Founder Predicts the Rise of 'Air Taxis' in India Within Five Years
In a recent interview with CNBC-TV18, EaseMyTrip founder Prashant Pitti shared his vision for the future of travel in India, asserting that 'air taxis' would become the primary mode of intra-city transportation within the next five years.
Pitti emphasized that the abundant availability of airspace between 1,000 to 10,000 feet presents a significant opportunity for air travel, especially for intra-city commuting. He predicted that within a decade, air taxis would revolutionize the way people move within cities, making it more frequent and efficient.
During the interview, Prashant Pitti highlighted the cost-effectiveness of air taxis, projecting that they would be autonomous, eliminating the need for a pilot and ultimately reducing expenses. Nishant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, expressed his excitement for the envisioned future of travel in India, affirming the potential of air taxis and travel pods.
While acknowledging the challenges, Prashant Pitti emphasized the importance of building proper infrastructure through collaboration with stakeholders, including the aviation industry and the government.
The emergence of air taxis is not limited to visionary discussions, as industry leaders are actively investing in research and development in this domain. Hyundai recently introduced an advanced electric flying taxi, or electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, powered by solid-state batteries. Additionally, InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of low-cost airline IndiGo, plans to launch an all-electric air taxi service across India in 2026, offering swift connections between Delhi's Connaught Place and Gurugram.
The ambitious plans include exploring various use cases for electric aircraft, such as cargo transport, logistics, medical and emergency services, as well as private company and charter services. As these developments unfold, the prospect of air taxis reshaping the future of transportation in India seems increasingly plausible. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative shift in the travel landscape.
