Deadline for Aadhaar Details Update: March 14, 2024; Guidelines for Address Change

The deadline for updating Aadhaar card details, especially the address, has been extended by three months to March 14, 2024. Previously set for December 14, 2023, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced the extension due to a positive response from residents. The government body encourages individuals to take advantage of this opportunity for free document updates through both online and offline modes.

In an official office memorandum, UIDAI stated, "Based on the positive response from the residents, it is decided to extend the facility for 3 more months, i.e., from 15.12.2023 to 14.03.2024." The option for document updates will continue to be free through the myAadhaar portal at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ until the revised deadline.

Residents can choose between online and offline modes for making updates. For the offline mode, individuals need to visit an Aadhaar center, where a service fee of ₹50 will be charged for the update.

To update the address in the Aadhaar card using the online mode, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Aadhaar self-service update portal: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/portal

  2. Click on the "Document update" option, followed by "Click To Submit."

  3. Log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP (One-time password) received on your registered mobile number.

  4. If you possess a valid address proof, proceed to "Update Address."

  5. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click 'Send OTP.'

  6. Log in with the OTP, then input the new address either via address proof or by using the 'Update Address via Secret Code' option.

  7. Provide your residential address as per the 'Proof of Address' document.

  8. Select the document type for address proof.

  9. Upload a scanned copy of the address proof document and click on 'Submit.'

  10. Upon submission, a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) will be generated.

To check the status after updating the address online:

  1. Use the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) to check the update status.

  2. Once the status displays as 'complete,' residents can download the updated Aadhaar card and obtain a printout for their records.
