DCW Chief Seeks Urgent Action Report in Tragic Delhi Minor's Rape and Murder Case
DCW Chief Swati Maliwal Takes Swift Action in Delhi Minor's Rape and Murder Case

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), under the leadership of Chief Swati Maliwal, has proactively addressed the distressing incident of a nine-year-old girl's rape and murder in the national capital. Taking suo-moto cognisance, Maliwal issued a notice to the SHO of Swaroop Nagar police station in north Delhi, demanding the FIR copy and details of the apprehended accused.

In a move to ensure accountability, Maliwal has requested a comprehensive action taken report from the authorities by December 22.

The horrific incident unfolded when the nine-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, raped, and murdered by her 52-year-old landlord, who purportedly disposed of her body in a canal in outer Delhi's Swaroop Nagar, as reported by the police.

The accused has been arrested under sections 364 (kidnapping with intent to commit murder), 302 (murder), and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), in addition to provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Following the girl's disappearance on December 12, the police initiated an investigation, scrutinizing CCTV footage in the area. Suspicion fell upon the accused, leading to their eventual arrest.

Upon reaching the landlord's residence, the police learned that he had been involved in an accident and was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Rohini.

On December 17, after the accused was declared fit for a statement, he confessed to the crime during interrogation. According to his account, he abducted the girl, took her to an isolated location where he assaulted her, and to conceal his actions, he strangled her before disposing of the body in the Munak Canal around 6.30 pm.

As of now, the girl's body is yet to be located, prompting the deployment of divers in the canal to search for any potential remains. The DCW's proactive stance aims to ensure swift justice in this tragic case that has deeply affected the community and underscores the urgent need for safeguarding the well-being of the youngest residents.
