Congress Celebrates Rahul Gandhi's MP Status Restoration: A Victory for Democracy
7th August New Delhi: The Congress party expresses joy and satisfaction as Rahul Gandhi's MP status is reinstated following the Supreme Court's relief in the Modi surname defamation case. Gandhi's representation as the Wayanad MP has been restored, and he will soon be back in the Lok Sabha, amid ongoing disruptions during the monsoon session over the Opposition alliance's demand for a discussion on Manipur violence.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hails this development as a 'welcome step' and urges the Modi government to focus on genuine governance during the remaining tenure. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge writes, "The decision to reinstate Shri @RahulGandhi as an MP is a welcome step. It brings relief to the people of India, and especially to Wayanad. Whatever time is left of their tenure, BJP and Modi Govt should utilize that by concentrating on actual governance rather than denigrating Democracy by targeting opposition leaders."
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also joins in the jubilation, calling it a 'victory for democracy'. He expresses his immense relief and welcomes the official announcement of Rahul Gandhi's reinstatement. Tharoor writes on X, "With enormous relief, welcome the official announcement of Rahul Gandhi’s reinstatement. He can now resume his duties in the Lok Sabha to serve the people of India and his constituents in Wayanad. A victory for justice and for our democracy!"
Celebrations kick off at the Congress headquarters in Delhi and during the INDIA bloc's meeting to discuss the day's strategy for Parliament. The reinstatement of Rahul Gandhi's MP status is seen as a significant win for the party and a reaffirmation of democracy's principles
