Rescue efforts faced new challenges in the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel as fresh debris hindered operations to reach 40 trapped laborers. On Wednesday morning, rescuers deployed JCB machines to clear the debris, aiming to set the auger machine on a platform for pushing large pipes through. Technical issues arose during drilling, prompting a request for a new machine.
Despite previous attempts to remove debris using heavy excavators and the "shotcrete method," the rescue switched to Plan B, involving an auger machine and large pipes.
The process faces hurdles, including a boulder blocking the machine and ongoing risk of falling debris. Injuries occurred among rescue workers, emphasizing the complexity of the mission, which has been ongoing for over 72 hours since the tunnel collapse on Sunday. Authorities aim to create an escape passage using drilling equipment while providing trapped workers with essentials through tubes.
