Cabinet Greenlights Expansion of Digital India Project with ₹14,903 Crore Budget Allocation

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday that the Cabinet has given its approval for the extension of the Digital India project, accompanied by a substantial budget of ₹14,903 crore. Highlighting the program's evolution, the minister emphasized that the extended phase of the Digital India initiative will seamlessly build upon the achievements of its earlier iteration.

During the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi endorsed the Digital India program, reflecting the government's commitment to advancing digital transformation across the nation. Vaishnaw further elaborated that the extended project will entail the reskilling and upskilling of 5.25 lakh IT professionals, along with training 2.65 lakh individuals in the field of information technology.

Notably, the extension of the Digital India project will witness the integration of nine additional supercomputers into the National Supercomputing Mission (NCM), augmenting the computing capabilities of the country. Vaishnaw highlighted that the NCM already boasts the deployment of 18 supercomputers, underscoring India's strides in technological advancement.
