Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Takes Legal Action Against TMC Legislators for Alleged Insults to PM Modi and HM Shah

In a recent development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken firm action against 60 Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators, filing two complaints with the Kolkata Police. The complaints accuse the ruling TMC members of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent BJP leader, voiced strong criticism against TMC leaders in a post on X this Tuesday. Adhikari condemned the TMC members for attempting to tarnish the reputation of both Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah. In his statement, he expressed dismay, stating, "The TMC thieves had the audacity to try and smear the honorable PM’s & honorable HM’s reputation by hurling all kinds of abuses and engaging in name-calling within the WB [West Bengal] Assembly Premises."

Adding to the tension, state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya lodged two complaints against BJP legislators on Monday. The complaints alleged that the BJP lawmakers wore T-shirts with derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Bhattacharya accused Adhikari of leading the BJP legislators and undermining the dignity of the state and its people.

In a related legal development, the Calcutta High Court intervened on Monday, staying the police notices issued to eight BJP legislators. The notices were in response to allegations that these legislators insulted the national anthem last week.

Amidst the ongoing political clash, TMC legislators staged a protest wearing black dresses, accusing the Centre of withholding funds. During the protest, they allegedly used foul language against Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah. The political atmosphere in West Bengal continues to escalate as both parties engage in a war of words and legal actions.
