Asia Healthcare Holdings takes majority stake in AINU
Dr. C Mallikarjuna, Managing Director and Chief Consultant Urologist at AINU

Asia Healthcare Holdings (AHH) is making waves in the healthcare industry with its recent acquisition of a majority stake in the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), India's largest network specializing in Urology and Nephrology Care. AINU boasts a formidable presence across four cities and is renowned for its groundbreaking work in Robotic Urology Surgery. This strategic move sees AHH committing a substantial investment of 600 crore through a combination of primary and secondary infusion.

This acquisition marks a significant milestone for AHH as it ventures into the Urology and Nephrology segment, becoming the only single-specialty healthcare delivery platform of its kind in India and the broader Asian subcontinent. Since its inception in 2017, AHH has expanded its footprint in various specialized healthcare domains, including Oncology (CTSI), Women & Children's (Motherhood Hospitals), and IVF & Fertility (Nova IVF), achieving leadership positions in each.

Founded in 2013 by a team of leading Urologists & Nephrologists led by Dr. C Mallikarjuna and Dr. P.C. Reddy, AINU has emerged as a trailblazing hospital network in the Urology & Nephrology clinical specialty in India. The company presently operates seven hospitals strategically located in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Siliguri, and Chennai, collectively offering more than 500 beds. Their dedicated team has provided care to over 400,000 patients and performed over 50,000 procedures. Notably, AINU has carved a niche for itself in the field of robotic urology surgery, having successfully completed over 1,000 surgeries utilizing robotic technology. On the Nephrology front, they have administered more than 200,000 dialysis sessions and performed 300 kidney transplants.

Vishal Bali, Executive Chairman of Asia Healthcare Holdings, expressed his enthusiasm about this partnership, saying, "AINU not only adds a new specialty to the AHH platform but also strengthens our vision of scaling the single-specialty healthcare delivery ecosystem in the country. India is amongst the top three nations globally with the highest incidence of Urological disorders, and the rising prevalence of diabetes and hypertension is accelerating the prevalence of chronic kidney disease. We are delighted to partner with AINU and bridge the demand-supply gap in the Urology & Nephrology specialty healthcare delivery in the country."

AINU's comprehensive services encompass diagnostics and treatment for stone disease, urology cancers, prostate diseases, reconstructive urology surgery, laparoscopic urology, and Andrology. Additionally, the Nephrology Department offers treatment for acute, chronic, and end-stage renal diseases, equipped with a state-of-the-art dialysis unit featuring High-End Hemodiafiltration (HDF) Machines, ensuring superior clinical outcomes.

Dr. C Mallikarjun, Chief Consultant Urologist & Managing Director of AINU, emphasized their commitment to expanding access to robotic urology surgery, stating, "We are making Robotic Urology surgery accessible to patients not just in urban India but also in tier 2 cities. Broadly, we see a higher incidence of Uro-Oncology, Uro-Gynaecology, and Paediatric Urology in the years ahead."

Dr. P.C. Reddy, Senior Urologist & Executive Director of AINU, highlighted the critical need for advanced care in Nephrology, especially given the rising incidence of chronic kidney diseases in India.

In 2022, India recorded approximately 1.89 crores Nephrology and Urology procedures, and this specialty is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8-9% over the next five years, making it one of the fastest-growing fields in the country. With a substantial pool of qualified Urologists and Nephrologists in India, coupled with advancements in laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic surgical options, AINU is poised for significant growth across metropolitan and tier 2 cities.
