Anshul Sharma Demands Refund Amid Overcrowded Trains

A Gujarat resident's Anshul Sharma plans to celebrate Deepawali in his hometown turned into a nightmare when overcrowded conditions in the air-conditioned coach prevented him from boarding the train. Anshul Sharma, 27, voiced his discontent on social media platform X, demanding a refund of ₹1173.95 for his confirmed 3rd AC ticket.

Expressing his frustration on X, Sharma stated, “Thanks for ruining my Diwali. This is what you get even when you have a confirmed 3rd AC ticket. No help from Police. Many people like me were not able to board.” He shared videos illustrating the chaotic scene on the platform, where passengers struggled to board the jam-packed coach.

Sharma described a distressing situation where he was pushed out of the train by the crowd, and despite seeking help from the police, he received no assistance. He tagged the Divisional Railway Manager of Vadodara in his post, questioning the management on a festive day and expressing concerns about the safety of passengers.

Railways experienced a surge in passengers just days before Diwali, leading to unfortunate incidents. In a recent case at Surat station, a 40-year-old man lost his life, and two others were hospitalized during the commotion while boarding a special train bound for Bihar.

In response, Western Railways assured that special measures were taken, including the operation of special trains and deployment of personnel from the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force for security and crowd management.

The Western Railway has scheduled 400 trips for 46 pairs of special trains to various destinations, with 27 pairs either starting from or passing through Surat and Udhna railway stations, according to the statement.
