AAP's Raghav Chadha Responds Strongly to BJP's 'Forged Signatures' Allegations

Raghav Chadha, a prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has fired back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding allegations of "forged signatures" made by five Rajya Sabha MPs. Chadha challenged the BJP to provide evidence and show him the supposed piece of paper containing the alleged forged signatures.

Chadha held a press conference where he stated, "I have come under compulsion to expose the lies of the BJP. As per the rule book, no signature is required or taken. So I challenge the BJP to show me the piece of paper where they are claiming the forged signatures."

He further emphasized, "The Rajya Sabha rule book states that no signature or written consent of a member, whose name has been proposed for the select committee, is required. It nowhere states that you require signatures or written consent from that proposed member."

Chadha asserted that he would take the matter to the Committee of Privileges and even to court against the BJP members who made false allegations of forgery against him.

The AAP has maintained that Chadha has not received any notice from the Privilege Committee regarding this issue.

The five MPs accused Chadha of including their names in the proposed panel without consulting them or obtaining their consent.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar referred the MPs' complaints to the Privileges Committee for investigation into the allegations.

The chairman received complaints regarding the breach of privilege by Chadha "for inter-alia including the names of the MPs without their consent, in violation of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, in a motion on August 7."

A Rajya Sabha bulletin stated, "On consideration of the facts, the Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha has referred the matter under Rule 203 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) to the Committee of Privileges for examination, investigation, and report."

Chadha had proposed a Select Committee of the House to examine the Delhi Services Bill.

During a discussion on the Delhi Services Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah mentioned that two members claimed they did not sign the motion moved by Raghav Chadha. He highlighted that an investigation was needed to understand how the motion was signed.

After a prolonged debate, the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, was passed in the Upper House with 131 MPs voting in favor and 102 against. This bill had previously been passed by the Lok Sabha last week.
